Welcome to CAPRI!

Capri Elementary School has served the community of Leucadia in north coastal San Diego County since opening in 1969.  We are proud that when describing Capri, our families and staff start with the word “community”. Our community of 600 K-6^th grade students is culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse. Half our students are enrolled in a traditional English-Only (EO) program, and half are enrolled in our Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program. Capitalizing on our diverse cultural resources, Capri’s DLI program serves students from throughout the district. In our “90/10” DLI program model, K-1 DLI students receive 90% of their instruction in Spanish and 10% in English. Each year after first grade, the percentage of time instructed in English increases by 10% annually, until a 50/50 balance in 4th -6th grades. The EO and DLI programs both offer challenging and rigorous academics, as well as the goal of developing cross-cultural understanding, furthering the sense of community for which Capri is known. Students in both programs interact daily/weekly with common recess & lunch times, mixed enrichment classes, and many other opportunities.

Thanks to our Capri PTA and Encinitas Educational Foundation, all our students benefit from STEM, Art, Music, Yoga, PE, TRAC (SEL) and Garden teachers, who further enrich our students’ experience at Capri. Capri’s talented teachers are caring and collaborative, engaging and supporting our students’ curiosity, passions, and desire to succeed. Together we share our beautiful campus, pursuing our vision of exceptional learning for every child!
